The Amana Corporation had its start in the 1930s as a manufacturer of commercial walk-in coolers. By 1954, Amana made air conditioners. In 1965, Amana was acquired by Ratheon, the company that invented the microwave oven. By 1967, Amana introduced the Radarange, the first popular microwave designed for home use. Amana later expanded to other household appliances, such as ovens, furnaces, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers. In 2001, Amana was bought out by the Maytag Corporation. Recently, in 2006, Maytag (and the Amana name) were bought out by the Whirlpool Corporation.
